There are plenty of USA-themed styles across Nike’s vast footwear selections, often dropping during the country’s Independence Day celebration. However, variants like the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” and this Air Max 1 rendition cemented their spots in sneaker history because of their timeless aesthetics, masterfully designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield.

This “USA” colourway, also called the “Obsidian”, first emerged in golf form a few months ago, serving as a precursor to this highly-anticipated four-window Big Bubble edition.

More navy blue accents envelop the suede mudguard and Swoosh, while vibrant hits of red adorn the Nike branding, plastic eyelet, sockliner, and toe portion of the rubber outsole. The clean white PU midsole houses a visible large-volume Nike Air unit in the heel, providing superior cushioning and bouncy comfort underfoot. Wrapping up the design of these iconic kicks is the signature waffle sole.

This colourway is a must to the collection, regardless of whether you’re a long-time Air Max fan or a new sneakerhead looking to cop your first AM1.

When were Air Max 1 released?

In 1987, the Air Max 1 changed the world of footwear forever. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the icon made the invisible visible, with the arrival of visible Air Max cushioning.

Air Max Vs AF: 3 key differences in the Nike sneakers

1) Design

The most noticeable difference between Air Max and Air Force is the design of the shoes. Both sneakers are known for their unique and eye-catching designs. However, Air Max shoes feature a visible air unit in the sole, which gives them a distinct, futuristic look.

Air Force , on the other hand, have a more classic design with a smooth, solid sole.

2) Comfort

Both Air Max and Air Force are designed with comfort in mind, but they use different technologies to achieve this. Air Max shoes have a more cushioned sole with a larger air unit, which provides a bouncier and more responsive feel. Air Force shoes have a more traditional sole with less cushioning, which provides a firmer and more stable feel.

3) Functionality

While both Air Max and Air Force are popular for casual wear, they have different intended purposes. Air Max shoes are designed more for running and athletic activities, while Air Force shoes are designed more for basketball and other court sports.

Air Max are typically lighter and more flexible, while Air Force are more durable and supportive.
